  • Tea strainer
  • Bamboo scoop (chashaku) or teaspoon
  • Bamboo whisk (chasen)
  • Hot water

Tip 1: Sift the matcha powder through a tea strainer to remove lumps and achieve a smoother texture.

How to Prepare Matcha

  1. Scooping matcha powder into a matcha bowl

    Step 1

    Scoop 2 g of matcha per bowl. (1 teaspoon ≈ 2 chashaku)


  2. Pouring warm water into the matcha bowl

    Step 2

    Add warm water (70–80°C / 158–176°F) to avoid bitterness.


  3. Whisking matcha quickly with a bamboo whisk in a W or M motion

    Step 3

    Whisk briskly in a “W” or “M” motion until creamy and foamy.


  4. Lifting the bamboo whisk slowly from the bowl to finish the foam

    Step 4

    Draw the character “の”, then slowly lift the whisk.


  5. A bowl of freshly prepared matcha with smooth foam on top

    Enjoy the vibrant color and creamy taste.
